On behalf of KBS, the public broadcaster of the Republic of Korea, it is my great pleasure to invite you to 2026 PBI Seoul. As a longstanding friend of PBI, KBS is honoured to host its conference for the third time, following gatherings in 2007 and 2018. This year, we will explore how public service media can preserve, promote, and enrich national culture while ensuring its own sustainability and continued development.
KBS has been at the heart of the Korean Wave by pioneering K-POP and K-Drama content. It has also played a leading role in bringing Korean culture to global audiences through multilingual digital platforms and K-POP concerts in major cities around the world. Today, leveraging advanced technologies, including AI, KBS content reaches approximately 150 million households across 155 countries.
As we look ahead, we believe our responsibility extends beyond Korea to the global community. We hope that the upcoming conference will provide a valuable opportunity to shape a bright future for public service media in a rapidly changing media landscape.

올해 우리는 공영미디어가 국가의 문화와 정체성을 보존하고 발전시키는 역할을 어떻게 수행할 수 있는지, 그리고 급변하는 미디어 환경 속에서 지속가능성과 미래 경쟁력을 어떻게 확보할 수 있을지 함께 논의하고자 합니다.
KBS는 K-POP과 K-드라마 콘텐츠를 꾸준히 선보이며 한류 확산의 초석을 다졌습니다. 또한 다국어 디지털 서비스를 운영하고 세계 주요 도시에서 K-POP 콘서트를 개최하는 등 한국 문화를 세계에 알리는 데 앞장서 왔습니다. 아울러 AI를 비롯한 첨단 방송 기술을 적극 활용하며 끊임없이 변화와 성장을 이어온 결과, 현재 KBS 콘텐츠는 전 세계 155개국 약 1억 5천만 가구에 도달하고 있습니다.
이제 우리는 한국을 넘어 전 세계 공영미디어 공동체와 함께 더 큰 미래를 만들어가고자 합니다. 다가오는 컨퍼런스가 급변하는 미디어 환경 속에서 공영미디어의 역할과 가능성을 함께 모색하고, 지속 가능한 발전 방향을 논의하는 뜻깊은 자리가 되기를 바랍니다.

Welcome to the 34th Public Broadcasters International Conference. This year’s conference is hosted by KBS, the Korean Broadcasting System, and is being held in South Korea’s capital city, Seoul. KBS has been a long-standing member and supporter of PBI and this will be the third occasion on which KBS has hosted the PBI in just over three decades of PBI’s existence. I thank the President and Chief Executive of KBS, Mr. Park Jang-beom for his generous support and for taking on the chairmanship of the conference.
The PBI exists only to convene one annual conference each year which brings together senior leaders from public service media from all around the world to champion public service broadcasting and to discuss the role of public service media and its most pressing issues. The PBI conference offers opportunities to share mutual understanding of these issues and the approach to them taken by public service media in every continent worldwide. It is a unique annual opportunity.
In this conference we will focus in particular on the role public service media plays in promoting national culture at home and abroad, a common purpose of public service media. So we look forward to meeting again in Seoul to continue advancing the purpose and values of public service media, learn from each other and build on our longstanding collaboration.

올해 총회는 대한민국 공영방송 KBS의 주최로 수도 서울에서 열립니다. KBS는 PBI의 오랜 회원이자 든든한 후원자로 함께해 왔으며, PBI 출범 이래 세 번째로 총회를 개최하게 되었습니다. KBS의 박장범 사장님께서 보내주신 아낌없는 지원과 의장직을 맡아주신 데 대해 깊이 감사드립니다.
PBI는 전 세계 공영미디어의 고위 경영진이 한자리에 모이는 연례 총회를 개최하는 협의체입니다. 총회는 공영미디어의 가치와 역할, 그리고 당면한 주요 현안에 대해 논의하는 장입니다. 또한 세계 각 지역의 공영미디어가 이러한 과제들에 어떻게 대응하고 있는지 경험을 공유하고, 상호 이해와 협력을 증진하는 뜻깊은 자리이기도 합니다.
이번 총회에서는 특히 공영미디어가 국가의 문화와 정체성을 보존하고 계승·발전시키는 데 어떠한 역할을 해야 하는지에 초점을 맞출 예정입니다. 이는 전 세계 공영미디어가 공유하는 중요한 사명이기도 합니다.
서울에서 다시 만나 공영미디어의 가치와 미래를 함께 모색하고, 서로의 경험과 지혜를 나누며, 오랜 협력 관계를 더욱 발전시켜 나가기를 기대합니다.
